Trump says US “will not put up” with perceived resistance from Zelensky on peace deal

President Donald Trump says the US “will not put up” with perceived resistance by President Volodymyr Zelensky to ending the war with Russia, making clear his enmity toward the Ukrainian leader remains after a fracas in the Oval Office on Friday.

“This is the worst statement that could have been made by Zelensky, and America will not put up with it for much longer!” Trump wrote on Truth Social, citing an AP headline that quoted Zelensky over the weekend saying an end to the war is “still very, very far away.”

“It is what I was saying, this guy doesn’t want there to be Peace as long as he has America’s backing and, Europe, in the meeting they had with Zelensky, stated flatly that they cannot do the job without the U.S. – Probably not a great statement to have been made in terms of a show of strength against Russia. What are they thinking?” Trump went on.

American officials have continued their harsh criticism of Zelensky three days after the blowup in the Oval Office. National security adviser Mike Waltz said earlier Monday that Zelensky needed to express regret before talks could resume on a rare earths mineral deal.
