Unemployed man jailed two years for stealing electrical cables

An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a jobless man to two years in prison for stealing electrical cables in La, a suburb of Accra.

The convict, Ebenezer Tetteh, admitted to the crime, although the ownership and value of the stolen cables were unknown to the court.

Presiding Judge Mrs. Sedinam Awo Kwadam convicted Tetteh based on his guilty plea, noting that his explanation further confirmed his admission.

The court ruled that the cables remain in police custody until the rightful owner provides proof of ownership.

Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori Appiah, leading the prosecution, stated that the complainant and witnesses were police officers from the Cantonment Division, while the accused resided in Apapa, La.

According to the prosecution, on February 20, 2025, at approximately 1:00 a.m., a police patrol team stopped a taxi near La Palm Royal Beach Hotel for a routine check. During the search, officers discovered a stash of electrical cables in the vehicle. Tetteh, who was inside the taxi, claimed ownership of the cables but failed to provide a credible explanation.

Suspecting foul play, the police arrested him and took him to the La Police Station for further investigations. During interrogation, Tetteh confessed to stealing the cables but had yet to disclose the exact location of the theft.

Authorities are still working to identify and locate the rightful owner of the stolen items.
